The new Zen 3 architecture uses the same 7nm lithography process, but it now offers higher maximum boost clock, a 19% increase in Instructions Per Clock/Cycle (IPC) – the largest since the introduction of “Zen” processors in 2017 – and improved power efficiency. AMD says the Zen 3 architecture allows for a new unified 8-core CCX (core complex) design and reduces latency from accelerated core and cache communication. It doubles the directly accessible L3 cache per core while delivering up to 2.8X more performance-per-watt versus the competition. “Zen 3 increases our lead in overall performance. It increases our lead in power efficiency, and also now, it delivers the best single-threaded performance and gaming performance as well,” AMD CEO Lisa Su said in her opening remark. The new AMD Ryzen 5000 processor line-up consists of four varieties: Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X, Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X. All these processors are compatible with the existing AMD 500 chipset based motherboards after a BIOS update. Out of all the models, the Ryzen 9 5950X offers up to 16 cores and 32 threads with base and boost speeds of 3.4GHz and 4.9GHz respectively and has 72MB of total cache memory. AMD Ryzen 9 5950X offers the highest single-thread performance of any desktop gaming processor as well as the most multi-core performance of any desktop gaming processor and any desktop processor in a mainstream CPU socket. Further, the 12-core, 24-thread AMD Ryzen 9 5900X processor runs at speeds between 3.7GHz and 4.8GHz, and has 70MB of combined L2 and L3 cache memory. It will also deliver an average performance improvement of 26 percent for 1080p gaming across select titles generationally compared to the previous generation. Moving to the Ryzen 7 5800X, it features eight cores, 16 threads with base and boost speeds of 3.8GHz and 4.7GHz respectively, and has 36MB of total cache memory. Furthermore, the 6-cores, 12-thread AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor runs at speeds between 3.7GHz and 4.6GHz with 35MB of cache memory in total. The three Ryzen 9 and Ryzen 7 models have 105-watt thermal design power (TDP) and do not come with a stock cooler. However, the Ryzen 5 5600X has a 65W rating and will come with AMD’s Wraith Stealth cooler in the box. Check out the comparison of all the products announced by AMD: The Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 7 5800X, Ryzen 9 5900X, and Ryzen 9 5950X will cost $299, $449, $549 and $799 respectively. All these four CPUs will be available globally on November 5, 2020.
